Time Out

I haven’t blogged in a while. Partly because my brain has been too foggy, but mainly because I broke the tip of my right thumb hitting a baseball in a batting cage. Kinda like Ryan Vogelsong except the ball hit his little finger and while at bat, not in a batting cage. I plan to write him a fan letter – with the other hand, won’t that be fun.

It sucks, because I can’t even ride Jessie without pain radiating up and down my arm. How can a fracture in a tiny bone cause so much pain? It really sucks. I tried riding a stationary bicycle at the gym, with a video of riding trails, but that also became painful. It’s not easy to ride bicycle one-handed.

The good thing about the break (yes, there is a good thing) is that for the first time in years, I could think clearly. The pain was excruciating. But it woke me up. I felt like I could do anything with my mind, any job, solve any problem, or be anyone’s boss. I could even solve Sudoku puzzles in a fraction of the time it usually takes me.

Alas, clarity does not last long in a mind with PTSD. Within eight days the fog settled in thicker than it does over San Francisco Bay.
